TDA38640 General Description

The TDA38640 appears to be a versatile and highly configurable dc-dc regulator with advanced features, making it suitable for various power management applications in server, storage, telecom, and datacom systems, especially in scenarios requiring precise voltage regulation and monitoring. 

Features

Input Voltage Range: The regulator can operate within a wide input voltage range, making it suitable for various applications, including those with a single 5 V to 17 V power source or a wider range of 3.0 V to 17 V when an external Vcc is provided.

Output Voltage Range: The output voltage can be adjusted within the range of 0.25 V to 3.04 V using an external feedback resistor divider when operating in SVID mode.

Fast COT Engine: The regulator features an enhanced fast COT engine that is stable with ceramic output capacitors and does not require external compensation components. This simplifies the design process.

Light Load Efficiency: It offers optional modes such as forced continuous conduction mode and diode emulation to enhance light load efficiency, which can be crucial for power-saving applications.

Switching Frequency: The regulator supports programmable switching frequencies from 400 kHz to 2 MHz in steps of 200 kHz, excluding 1600 kHz, allowing for flexibility in design.

Soft-Start: It offers selectable soft-start times via SVID or PMBus commands and supports pre-bias startup, ensuring controlled power-on sequences.

Over-Current Protection: The regulator has thermally compensated internal over-current protection with eight selectable settings, enhancing safety and protection of connected devices.

Telemetry: It provides an I2C system interface for reporting temperature, voltage, current, and power telemetry, allowing for real-time monitoring and control.

User Section Programming: The regulator supports single-image multiple-time programming (MTP) for the USER section, enabling customization and configuration.
