E-L9823013TR General Description

The L9823 is an octal low-side driver circuit designed specifically for automotive applications. It offers several key features, making it suitable for controlling various functions within a vehicle. 

Features

Outputs Current Capability: The L9823 is capable of driving output currents of up to 0.5 A per channel. This makes it suitable for controlling inductive loads or other devices within a vehicle.

Cascadable SPI Control: The device features a cascadable SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) for controlling its outputs. This means you can connect multiple L9823 devices together using SPI to control multiple channels or loads in a synchronized manner.

Reset Function: It has a reset function that can be triggered by either a reset signal or undervoltage at the VDD (logic supply voltage).

Programmable Intrinsic Output Voltage Clamping: This feature is designed to protect against flyback current recirculation in inductive loads. It allows you to set an intrinsic output voltage clamping, typically at 50 V, for safe inductive switching.

Overcurrent Shutdown: The L9823 has overcurrent shutdown with latch-off. In the event of an overcurrent condition, the output will be shut down, and it requires a specific procedure to reset it (SFPD = low).

Independent Thermal Shutdown: Each output channel has independent thermal shutdown protection to prevent overheating. This is known as SOA (Safe Operating Area) protection.

SPI Output Status Data: You can access output status data on the SPI interface using an 8-bit I/O protocol, with a data rate of up to 3.0 MHz. This feature allows you to monitor the status of the outputs and gather diagnostic data.

Low Standby Current: When in reset mode (reset = low), the device consumes very little current, typically around 35 μA at VDD.

Open Load Detection: The L9823 can detect open-load conditions on its outputs and turn them off for safety.

Single VDD Logic Supply: The device operates with a single logic supply voltage.

High EMS Immunity and Low EME: It provides high immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMS) and controlled output slopes to minimize electromagnetic emissions (EME).

Functionality at Negative Voltage Drop: The device maintains full functionality even in cases of a negative voltage drop on its outputs, down to -1.5 V or -3.0 A.

Output Mode Programmable: You can program the output mode for sustained current limit or shutdown, allowing flexibility in controlling loads.
