The MCP2515-E/SO is a standalone CAN (Controller Area Network) controller manufactured by Microchip Technology. It is designed to provide a simple and cost-effective way to add CAN communication capability to a wide range of embedded systems. The MCP2515-E/SO features a SPI interface for communication with the host microcontroller, allowing for easy integration into existing designs. It supports both standard (11-bit) and extended (29-bit) CAN identifiers, as well as programmable bit rates up to 1 Mbps. The controller also includes a variety of features to assist with message filtering, acceptance filtering, error detection, and error handling. It has two receive buffers with prioritized message storage and a transmit buffer with priority levels. Additionally, it has a 256-byte RAM buffer for message storage, ensuring reliable communication in high-speed CAN networks.
