The MCP23017T-E/ML is a 16-bit I/O expander which provides an easy way to add more digital inputs and outputs to a microcontroller. It features 16 GPIO pins that can be individually configured as inputs or outputs. The device uses the I2C communication protocol to communicate with the microcontroller.The MCP23017T-E/ML has a wide operating voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V, making it suitable for use with a variety of microcontrollers. It also has built-in pull-up resistors for each input pin, eliminating the need for external resistors.Additionally, the MCP23017T-E/ML has an interrupt output pin which can be configured to alert the microcontroller when a specific event occurs on one of the GPIO pins.
