The CD4538BCN is a dual precision monostable multivibrator integrated circuit, designed for general-purpose timing applications. It can be used to generate accurate pulse durations from microseconds to hours. This IC is composed of two monostable multivibrator circuits triggered by either the positive or the negative edge of the input pulse. The triggering of the circuit is done by applying a trigger pulse to pin 5 (R) or pin 6 (S). It operates on a wide range of supply voltages, from 3V to 20V, making it versatile for various applications. The output pulse duration is determined by an external timing resistor and capacitor connected to pins 7 and 1, respectively. The CD4538BCN has a high-speed operation, with typical propagation delays of 30ns, making it suitable for high-frequency pulse generation.
